Antony Slavinski has been reupholstering furniture on Edith Street, Ramsbottom since 1985. Over 40 years as a master upholsterer, he's restored everything from Late Victorian settees to MasterCraft boat seating. His reputation is built entirely on word of mouth. The quality of his work speaks for itself. His online presence didn't.
When we first spoke, he had no website. People who'd heard of him couldn't find him online. People searching for upholstery services in the area were finding businesses that weren't a patch on him. That needed fixing.
The challenge wasn't building a simple brochure site. Antony's work is genuinely exceptional. Forty years of craft deserved a website that conveyed the quality, not just listed the services. There was also a geography problem: his customers come from across East Lancashire and Greater Manchester, but without an online presence, he was invisible outside his immediate local network.
I also had to work with photography taken in a busy workshop environment, not a studio. The gallery needed to do justice to the work regardless.
A hand-coded website built around the quality and heritage of Antony's work. The homepage sets the tone immediately: "Master Upholsterer, Est. 1985". Below it, genuine testimonials from customers who've trusted him with family heirlooms and commercial furniture alike.
The gallery is the centrepiece. Carefully laid out to show the range of his work across real commissions: a Late Victorian Settee, French Rococo Suite, Wingback Armchair, Chaise Longue, MasterCraft boat seating. The photography isn't studio quality but the craftsmanship is, and the layout lets it show.
The SEO was designed to reach customers across every area Antony actually works in, from Ramsbottom and Bury through to East Lancashire and Greater Manchester. Within weeks the site was appearing for the searches that matter.
Appearing in Google Search within weeks of launch for upholstery searches across Bury, Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
Rankings improving month on month as the site builds authority in the areas Antony actually works.
A website that reflects 40 years of craft and gives customers the confidence to pick up the phone.
Antony's work also features in DRINC Coffee Bar on Bolton Street, where he reupholstered the tub chairs. That kind of real-world connection between local businesses is worth more than any backlink strategy.
Ramsbottom Upholstery went from hoping people would find them to knowing they would. First page on Google inside a month. The phone rings more, the right customers are calling, and their competitor still doesn't know who built the site.
